Confessions Of A Year 2000 Victim

<< It seems that last month, my bank, which I won't name in this column out of deference to the future of my account balance, has been very diligent in ensuring that its systems will be fully prepared for the dreaded millennium bug. Earlier this month, when I called to inquire about why my statement was taking so long to arrive, I was told the compliance switch was flipped in late December. Thus, the entire statement cycle had been thrown off. Not to worry.

At the time, I was impressed by my bank's attention to year 2000 compliance. What neither I nor my bank branch managers realized at the time, however, was that the fix had also obliterated two weeks' worth of account information. You guessed it, by some twist of fate, the very period for which I desperately needed documentation had been unceremoniously vaporized. >>

Just one of those little Y2K inconveniences, I guess.

<<IMHO, this Y2K article and its referenced 'crystal ball' link are pretty balanced and a little disturbing.>>

John,
as I have stated before, I think the worst of the problems will be caused by the baddies(inside & outside of our borders) who believe they will be able get away with anything that night. Add to that some absolute terror from those who are becoming anywhere between slightly Inconvenienced to perhaps even prey to the carnage from
these baddies and things will get bad - very bad!.

A shot-gun and an SKS may well be more useful than a big dollar generator.

If people will do $100K worth of damage and plunder following a "good thing" like a Super Bowl win what can we expect from the true crazies?
