The first 6 months updates are included with the program from Reuters. Then I think it's $31.00 a month. I have not taken any training as of yet. I do think it would be a good idea.

You can start with a more conservative portfolio until you build up your account level. They also let you know right off the bat that they are there to do a lot of hand holding. They will not pick your portfolio's for you but they will help you in any other way they can.

Microstar gives you 2 manuals with the program and they are pretty clear about how to start correctly and how not to. Of course I immediately did some of the things they advised me not to and they were right. Luckily it didn't cost me to bad. You can check the program out at microstar-research.com.
I'm starting slowly so I don't damage my accounts to badly while I'm learning.

I agree the price seems high especially if your portfolio is small. They also have Indigo online which is less expensive and could be a good way to build up your porfolio.
