"since for the first time in history, Alex's name was mentioned without the AT&T credentials"

Paul, you must have missed this. Must have some sort of mental block;

"Immediately before joining Teligent in August 1996, Mandl was president and chief operating officer of AT&T Corp."

So they sign a customer and it makes the headlines. Let's see if they tell us when they go wireless.

<..where are the goodies for the proud new owners of 4.2 million shares of WinStar stock?..>

Don't know and I'm not too happy about it. Usually the best way to keep a LOT of the 500-5000 secondary share allocations from getting flipped is to keep the stock above offering price by papering the tape. Once bid price breaks, many holders just kick (though SSB has a 10 day retail hold policy that big Al enforces pretty strongly)

I do expect there to be some press ahead of earnings, hopefully pretty soon.

As Ed posted, WCII will be reporting on March 4th. The reason they are reporting so far away is purportedly that a LOT of oversees activity has kept them busy.

But I confirmed this AM there is NOTHING out there (ie., problems/loss of contracts/bad quarter/etc..) that would justify this selloff. In fact, purportedly just the contrary. There have been some blocks crossed, but a lot of the selloff seems more MM driven - trying to find juicy trading levels - than sell driven (except for that recent 30K at 37 and 18K at 36 1/2). Market makers, like many of us, know from experience that weak WCII hands can typically be shaken out. I'm guessing in a choppy/uncertain market, our new institutional support is standing back a bit to let the selling come to them.

Nice article Ali. Bliley's comments on congressional focus in getting the access playing field equalized was exactly what telecom regulatory authority Andrew Lipmann opined several weeks back. Good to see a congressman in print on this topic, which has been a pet project of BR's for awhile.

Still very bullish on the market, BBFW and WCII. This sector is just too hot. I wondered why Mandl hadn't forged a LD relationship, and when I asked him about TGNT's plans several weeks back, he said they did not have any. Makes me think that he may be preparing to sell. AT&T seems pretty aggressive these days. And if T made a move, WCOM would HAVE to get involved.

(OT - anyone play SATH from 8ish to 28ish? I took profits yesterday ahead of "news")
