Thank you for the kind sentiments --- which are heartily reciprocated.

As you say, when labor was cheap the mines were profitable --- and people had jobs. Now, labor in SAf has become unaffordable and uneconomic in terms of productivity --- and the whites are still being accused of not paying enough. Many people have preferred to close their factories etc rather than have to put up with the ANC and trade union cr*p.

For the future, we all become beggars waiting for US handouts and then blaming the US for racist policies when they don't give. Or, when they do! That's what we have learned in the "new" South Africa. NEVER say "thank you" because that prevents you from asking again tomorrow! And the next day....... It is your right to receive --- especially if you are not white.

You probably made a wiser decision going to Canada --- that is, if you don't mind the weather! There is no Utopia.
