J.D. Edwards Streamlines the Supply Chain for Delta's Plumbing Products Business

DENVER--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 11, 1999--Enterprise business software provider J.D. Edwards & Company (NASDAQ:JDEC) today announced that Delta Plc, a market leader in end feed fittings to the plumbing industry in Europe, has selected J.D. Edwards OneWorld(tm) and WorldSoftware(tm) for use in its Plumbing Products Division.

With a geographic spread of over twenty-six sites across fourteen countries including the developing economies of Eastern Europe, Delta was looking for an integrated pan-European system, to improve customer service and efficiency across the supply chain.

Delta Plumbing Products is part of Delta Plc, an international industrial group with annual sales of nearly 900M pounds. In recent years the plumbing business has been expanded across Europe and Delta is committed to further capitalize on the opportunities offered by its strong position in the European market. The company was looking to replace its existing system with a fully integrated ERP suite to improve efficiency and better manage the business across fourteen countries including Germany, France, Spain, the Czech Republic, Poland and the UK.

"Customer service is key to our success and is something we are always looking to improve upon," said Phillip King, divisional director at Delta. "OneWorld is a solution for our future. Flexibility in the international business environment is essential and we believe OneWorld and WorldSoftware will give us a competitive edge in the market."

Outlining the anticipated benefits of the J.D. Edwards solution, Alex Craig, Delta's IT manager said, "As a group we have a wide geographic spread. Controlling inventory means that people-intensive routines such as production planning can be improved to ensure duplication is not taking place. For example, some main product lines are manufactured in more than one location. Matching customer demand with factory loading can be complex. With J.D. Edwards' solution, this process can be done in hours rather than weeks giving supply chain savings to us and a more efficient service to our customers."

Delta will take advantage of J.D. Edwards' co-existence strategy

-- OneWorld and WorldSoftware will share the same database and seamlessly interact with each other to support integrated business processes. Running on the IBM AS/400(R) platform, the Plumbing Division will implement the full ERP suite, including financials, sales order processing, materials management, inventory and production across all twenty-six sites involved in the project. Implementation began in October 1998 with the first four largest manufacture sites scheduled to go live by October 1999.

Trevor Salomon, marketing director, J.D. Edwards UK Ltd., said, "This co-existence deal reinforces the value of OneWorld and WorldSoftware within an international as well as local business environment. Our ERP solutions share the same database and co-exist on multiple platforms. The OneWorld architecture ensures that future technology changes across the business will be low-risk and this will help Delta to maximize business efficiencies, streamline supply chain operations and continue to offer high levels of service to their customers."
