I've represented a number of public companies over the years and I can't see why a virtual startup needs Big 6 accounting to determine how much product they're selling. I'm not sure why you seem to be fixating on this point. If I were the CEO, I'd be perfectly comfortable relying on the company's own internal records, as interpreted by my marketing guy or controller. If I weren't comfortable, I'd sooner replace the untrustworthy employee than hire an expensive outside auditor just to add up sales figures. Of course, they'll eventually need an audit for the NASDAQ application.
