Nice Beatles story. I'm not sure where Greenbank is. John and Paul met at Woolton and I go down that way to the cemetery quite a lot. It hasn't changed as much a the rest of Liverpool. The nearest I got to the Beatles was that my first job, as a teenager, was on St.John Street looking straight down Matthew Street where the Cavern is. But in those days I was a member of the LPL Junior Philharmonic at the Philharmonic Hall and would never have gone to the Cavern. The nearest I got to that kind of music was when I went with my older brothers to the Grafton Ballroom or to the Empire to see some of the visiting American acts and bands (or Norman Wisdom and Max Bygraves). Anyway I used to take private violin lessons in the studios in the shop where Brian Epstein, the Beatles manager, was manager when he "discovered" them.

Later I was in a Skiffle Group whose lead singer knew the Beatles - or so he said. We used to sing Maggie Maggie May a lot. And Rock Island Line.

Matthew Street is now a shrine to the Beatles and the biggest tourist attraction; there are tours of all the Beatles spots, including Paul's old home in Allerton. There's a museum at the Albert Dock. Most of the buildings on St. John Street - once a very staid business district are now given over big night clubs centred on Matthew Street.

Hope all this is not making you too homesick.
