re Margin
A subject with which I am now very familiar.
Buying options decreases your buying power: even if the value of your options increase, the options worth is not counted toward your buying power, even though it is counted toward your total value.
Fidelity doesnt check one's margin until the end of each day but Datek did it during the day. But one reason Datek does that may be they allow less than 30% equity before a margin call.(Except they have recently raised their equity allowance on volatile internet stocks).
