Wins 'Best Buy' Award from PC World
BASKING RIDGE, N.J., Feb. 10 /PRNewswire/ -- AT&T WorldNet(R) Service today announced it is growing faster than the industry average and has received a "Best Buy" award from PC World magazine (March, 1999 issue) with an overall "outstanding" rating.
AT&T WorldNet Service increased its membership by 30 percent over the last 12 months, outperforming the industry average of 22* percent. The service added 100,000 new members in January bringing its membership to 1.5 million.
PC World magazine cited AT&T's "outstanding performance, easy installation, a comprehensive set of features and services, free start-up, and top-notch support policies."
Additionally, AT&T received the industry's top performance rating for the fifth consecutive month from Inverse Network Technology (www.inversenet.com), an independent ISP evaluation service. AT&T received an A+ rating for quickly connecting users to the Internet on the first try.
"These exceptional results are proof that AT&T WorldNet Service is the most compelling offer of its kind in the industry. Consumers love its ease of use and rich features," said Daniel H. Schulman, executive vice president of AT&T and president of segment marketing in the company's consumer services unit.
"AT&T WorldNet Service is now even more compelling because it is part of AT&T Personal Network, the groundbreaking communications package announced on Jan. 27 that offers consumers different types of communications services at the same low rate on a single bill."
The AT&T Personal Network includes Internet access, wireless and wireline calls on a single bill with a single customer care number. For a monthly fee of just $44.94, power users get 150 hours of AT&T WorldNet Internet access, a one-year subscription to the Wall Street Journal Interactive Edition or GameHub and the same low rate of 10 cents a minute on all:
-- Local and domestic long distance digital wireless calls made from their home wireless area and free voice mail with text messaging and caller ID; -- Long distance calls made from home within the United States and to Canada, the U.K., and border cities in Mexico; -- Domestic calls made with an AT&T calling card; and -- Domestic calls made to an AT&T personal 800 number.
AT&T is adding capacity throughout its IP network to maintain its high performance ratings and to accommodate the growth in subscribers. AT&T is adding capacity in 50 to 60 cities per month and expects to significantly expand its dial-up Internet network this year with a major portion of that expansion to be completed by the end of the second quarter.
