Noticed this bit in a Skybridge release today--note the speed that will be available for business users!

"SkyBridge will provide operators and service providers with local loop broadband capacities, enabling them to offer true interactive multimedia services to over 20 million business and residential users worldwide. Based on a constellation of 80 Low-Earth-Orbiting (LEO) satellites, SkyBridge will deliver global connectivity with performance comparable to that of future terrestrial broadband technologies:

- downstream speeds of up to 20 Mbps and up to 2 Mbps on the return link per residential user;

- 3 to 5 times higher bit rates will be provided to business users (up to 100 Mbps/up to 10 Mbps).

I think we should start concentrating on Skybridge a bit more now. With C* folding into Orion, our broadband future likely lies here in Skybridge. A $500 million SS/L contract to build sats for Skybridge will have a more immediate impact. It may all be for nothing if we eventually become Alcatel shareholders, but we may not. So, keep your eyes and ears open for Skybridge discussion fodder.

What is Loral up to these days? Foregoing the C* GEOs saves them over $100 million per year. Pushing Telstar 8&9 out in time saves them millions as well, at least in the near term. Are they actually trying to show us shareholders some earnings? Dressing up LOR the bride? Are they making her pretty to attract suitors, or are they making a run at boosting the share price to discourage suitors? Very interesting drama to come--stay tuned! Don't forget that $900 million--I for one am not excited about borrowing money at 9.5% and getting 4% in money market accounts. I would imagine BS is not excited about that either. Think big fish swallows little fish, bigger fish swallows big fish, etc.
