Sure they do. The Democrats have far more programs for restricting people's lives. Their Health Care plan was full of restrictions on people's ability to seek independent medical care. They also passed restrictions on encryption so they can tap the internet. They also passed the National ID card to track people.

For the most part, conservatives are content to leave people alone. Opposition to abortion is not the same as "trying to control private lives", if it is not only a private matter, as is contended. On homosexuality, most conservatives embrace tolerance, but not putting it on the same footing through innovations like same sex marriage. On most other things, the battle is over allowing people to raise their children according to their beliefs, rather than indoctrinating them in the schools. Mostly, under a conservative regime, you are still free to "do your own thing".
