If YOU were a black, indigent defendant relying on an overburdened, underpaid, and inexperienced Public Defender (a too typical profile as presented by a former PD friend of mine) to represent you, how would you like your odds of getting a truly just trial in a capital case? Even if I was innocent, I'd be sweating. If you believe justice is fairly and consistently meted out by our justice system--across the entire economic and social strata of this country, you're smoking something I want to try. We've got the best judicial system in the world, but it's far too fallible to be sentencing people to death in good conscience.
