High Bandwith will grow, but standard POTS (Plain Old Telephone Service) still has a long way to go. I expect that there is still a solid 3 years left. But never underestimate POTS, somebody will figure out a way to give them more life again. Everybody thought 14.4 was the top speed possible, then it was 19.2K, then 28.8K, then 33.6K then 56K where we are at. 3com, Rockwell, Lucent are all hard at work on the problem.

Based off of this I expect that standard large scale ISP still are a good thing. Prodigy claims to have a faster digital backbone. All I know is that AOL is half the speed of me calling into my works ISP. Same equipment and everything but it just goes slower.

If prodigy gives better speed and service it has a good opertunity. Then AOL will buy them, but that is 1 year from now ;-)

Should be an interesting day at the IPO races tommorow

I got a new Dell, got a free 30 days with AT & T. Horrible, so I tried Prodigy for 30 days. After 30 days I signed up for 1 year for $15.75 a month.

Obviously I like it. It's a straight forward provider and I have only gotten a busy signal a few times and it's crashed maybe once or twice. It's much better than AT & T. MUCH better.

Why would people use AOL for $22 a month?
