Fast everywhere but Hotmail, which has had significant problems ever since Microsoft bought it a year or so ago. I think they have a hard time keeping ahead of the expanding user base. I'm constantly shifting about among the various portals, but I like msn.com 's current state.

Interesting thing though: Since getting ADSL, I rarely look at a portal. Since IE reopens any windows that were open at shutdown and reconnects to the site, I usually just pick one of the half-dozen or so open windows. I wonder if high-speed always-on connections will deflate portal visits.

I don't know if it has to do with SQL Server but MSN.com is FAST in all of its functions. Just started using it more (along with yahoo!).

They're probably using all those Undocumented OS Calls. Oh, I'm sorry! That was the complaint during the DOS days.

but MSN.com is FAST
It's not because of SQL server. ORACLE consistently beats SQL Server on throughput tests.

Probably because they throw lots of RAM (gigabytes) at the problem so that gobs of data and code stay in RAM. Probably lots of pipes to the disk drives.
