What is the resolution of the shots in your slide show, were they all taken at the same res? (is that the max res of the DC260?)

The slide show images are 600x400 (scaled with Adobe Image Ready). The original pictures are 1536x1024 pixels in high quality mode. If you want to see the originals note the file name at the top of slide show and then goto to the following dir to download the full size images...

Was the LCD display a great help?
Did you retake photos because it looked bad in the LCD?
(I'm wondering about the utility of editing on the run)

Yes I did use it and did retake shots because I chopped someones head off etc...

in retrospect I should have used it more but was overly concerned about battery Life...

The camera seems to handle bright snow well.
In High contrast scenes did you ever try to override the exposure settings, or always just use auto?
(Like trying to correct for a person who looks dark against bright background)

I never owned any camera so I didn't know better. There are settings here but I did not use them.

Was the flash always set to 'auto'? ...it does nice exposure on fill.

mostly. I should have used manual fill sometimes. I am learning this things...

Do you recall any of these shots using the x2 'digital zoom' ?

Yeah, I'll have to look.

Did you record any sound with the pix?

yes. good quality. 10 seconds of audio seemed to use about 1-2 pictures worth of memory.

Did you say you were using a 48MB flash card with your DC260?
How many shots can you get on the card?

Camera reports 93, I actually got 123 pics on one 48M card. its not a fixed # but varies depending on space usage. This is in highest resolution and quality.

Did you need to download any pix to a notebook to free up space on the card?

Yes. I took over 350 Pics.....

Did you need to replace the 4 batteries on the trip?
Absolutely. NiMH rechargables are essential. Regular Alkalines don't last with these devices.

Are you using the Kodak 'Picutre Easy' software for the slide show?

no picture easy sucks!

(is there a way to jump to a specific frame number like 202?)
(I could only get to about frame 100 as the java app seemed eat-up all my swap file storage 100mb, leakage...?)

I noticed that. no help here. I just found this applet on the web. I have emailed the author asking for that feature.....

69_01.jpg what are the color blotches, was the shot stored this way?

Error during transfer. Not this way on the camera. Seems like some errors on serial line. I had dupes of some and some had it and some not indicating its not the camera but the transfer. I had a lot of problems with the software crashing on the loaner laptop. works great at home my desktop systems running 98 and NT.

88_01.jpg do you remember using 'pre-flash' at all in any shots?
(also, I dont recall seeing redeye in shots)

yeah I was using redeye and it kept confusing everyone....

134_01.jpg and 135 (statue) vert/horz format; are these the same resolution? was camera held vertically for both?

Same resolution. One was horizontal and the other was vertical. The camera has a sensor that detects and stores this and automatically formats the Jpegs the correct way. Very nice feature IMO

149_01.jpg in shots that look dark (but probably realistic for the moment), is the camera telling you the scene is dark in this shot and suggesting options?

it was very gloomy and snowing during these shots. The camera indicates low lighting...

Any frustrations with the camera?

It takes 20 seconds to get ready for next pic in high res and high quality....

Picture Easy Sucks!

Serial interface is slow compared to Olympus Software. Haven't tried the USB interface yet.

Overall very pleased. You should see some of these pictures printed on my Alps... Droool....

Did I pass the test? I'm exhausted :)
