National Semi's analog and wireless businesses are showing strength, he said. However, Intel's (INTC) price cuts this week are not helping the PC side of the business, Halla indicated.

"Even though the PC is not of interest to us, we do participate," he told the money managers. "We can't help but be affected by that." He likened National Semi's position in the wake of Intel's decision to slash prices of its Celeron processors to being "the civilian hospital next to the chemical plant."

"PC prices have eroded very rapidly," he said.
