>You are whining!

>If you believe your market orders should be executed instantaneously at the price you see on your screen at the moment you place your order you do not have much experience trading stocks

Doc,

I'm not sure how you arrived at the outrageous conclusion that I think market orders should be executed instantaneously at the price I see on my screen. And to connect that bizarre conclusion to the suggestion that I'm "whining" is definitely quite a stretch.

Actually, I've placed about 300 trades/year with E*trade during the past 5 years and have followed almost all of them with a real-time quote service. So I know what happens, and I know what doesn't happen, with both market orders and limit orders placed with E*trade. I also know what happens to those orders if they are placed on the NASDAQ as opposed to the NYSE. And what you suggested, that I expect instant execution, is totally out of bounds.

In the 5 years and hundreds, if not thousands, of trades I've made with E*trade, there have been only a very few times I've been unable to place an order either by computer or by telephone. I have no problem with their computer being down. I have no problem with their phone system being down. But I DO have a problem with them BOTH being down at the same time!

Maybe I'm wrong. But I suspect that you and the other people on this thread accusing me of "whining" have NOT been in the position of watching their money go down the drain while wanting to make a trade and getting an E*trade message saying "Service Unavailable" from both the computer and the telephone at the same time.

Doc,

Your right, after researching limitation on e-brokers I learned you do not place market orders, only limit buys and sells. The one time I did try a market order it was filled 30 minutes later and $10 higher. I also use only the RTQ with E*Trade with the limit orders, and found them very accurate. My trades are executed on the money.

Also I would like to say that E*Trade is not perfect, this morning I placed a limit buy for EGRP at 35 1/4. I then watched the RTQ bid go to 35 1/8, but no alert notice that the trade was executed. I then went to "Trade History" entered todays date, and voila the trade history showed the trade at 35 1/4. I still have not received an alert notice or conformation, but I'm up $3,000 just today, Boy I love this company and it's stock. italiana
