Ever since the "Intel Inside" program started, Compaq has been searching for ways to differentiate their products from the competition.

If they could buy CPUs at cost, and sell them under their own brand name at a discount, it would give them exactly what they have been looking for. No one could touch them, pricewise.

No way No how!!!

Why would CPQ burn up that much cash to stay competitive with INTC. They are better off having some other company incur the losses associated with competing with INTEL's manufacturing than taking on that daunting task themselves. I say they would be crazy to buy them.
