Tim, some thought on Seiman news. Nortel last year made an exactely similar announcement that they were going to open up a data-networking unit to expand their business and four months later they bought BAY. With this Seiman news, my speculation is that it's just one step further coms will be bought out. There are really not too many data-networking companies out there to be bought out, only coms and cabletron. Seiman would definitely benefit from coms' huge US market penetration in all segments except WAN.

Here is an old Nortel news release dated Feb. 3, 1998, they bought out BAY June 15, 1998 :

"Nortel (Northern Telecom) Launches Enterprise Data Networks Unit Intensifies Global Focus on High-Performance Data Networks "

DALLAS -- Nortel (Northern Telecom) today launched Enterprise Data
Networks, a new business unit focused on delivering high-performance
data networks globally. Nortel also announced that F. William Conner
has been named president of the new line of business.

"The new business will focus on opportunities in the growing data
networking market," said John A. Roth, Nortel president and chief
executive officer. "Focus is a winning formula for Nortel. Recognizing the
shift in the wireless market, Nortel created a business to address it.
Today, that unit is number three in the global wireless infrastructure
market. It's our goal to chart the same path in the data networking
market."
