Technically it should have no effect since the dilution is exactly balanced by the increase in each investors holdings.

In practice it often leads to an increase since:

- It is easier for a small investor to buy in board lots

- It is normally associated with successful companies whose stock price is starting to get get close to the triple digits. Look at many European stocks (or Berkshire Hathaway) for examples of stock prices when splits are not used

- It is another chance to issue a PR and generate some publicity

There are many exceptions, however.

re: SOWK; Back to $1.75 on Friday. Audio interview CDs have never done well in the mass consumer market. Even though it's MJ, speech-only material just isn't that interesting. The wholesale distributors ('jobbers' in the industry parlance) don't make large pre-orders on this kind of material. Thus, even if a million copies are stamped, they'll sit in a warehouse to avoid return charge-backs.

A 400% dilution??? Sheesh!!! Won't hurt current shareholders, but it shouldn't help stock price, at least in the short run.

I missed a bit—it went even lower. “SOWK; Back to $1.75 on Friday.” #reply-7764155

Would the div count yet? I thought it would be later.
