Mark,
Thanks. I remember hiding under desks though I was in first or second and didn't really understand why my older sister was so scared during that crisis.

OT sitting under our desks
I recall that episode, we were asked to bring our coats to class (although it's pretty warm in west texas in oct.) to put over our heads.

Some things don't change that much. After the nearby town of Jerrel got blown away the schools had our children practice tornado alerts which were frightenly similar.

** OT ** Talking about nuclear missles is very appropriate today as dell streaks towards escape velocity <g>.

I'm a little older than you fellows. I remember being in grammar school in the late 1940's and being taught how to "duck and cover" in the event of a nuclear attack. Picture little kids preparing for Armagedon by crawling under their school desks and covering their eyes with their hands.

I have a great wav file of a song the teachers used to drum in the <duck and cover> theme. Unfortunately, I have no way of posting it. If one of the people in this discussion has a home page, I'll email it to you so you can tie a link to it and let everyone hear it.
