Watch List and other stuff:

SYMBOL CLOSE CHANGE CHANGE %

CATP 31 0.00%
GMGC 5.625 0.00%
USW 61.5 -0.375 -0.61%
TRB 63.563 -0.5 -0.78%
IIT 13.875 -0.125 -0.89%
RBK 15.625 -0.313 -1.96%

Dave, don't beat yourself up. We are getting antsy watching these
things go down and bounce or not bounce. We could miss a day and
have nothing happen, or miss a half hour and lose a bunch. Or we
could sit and follow it all day and find everything too late. Trade
like every other day. But keep in mind that one wants to follow the
market sentiment closely, and not try to predict it. In an uptrend,
prediction starts to look easy. Going horizontally with a downward
bias is the hardest I think.

Copeland, everyone I knew that could get through bought on Oct. 8th.
And although I expect this market to roll over slower rather than
a dump like that, I think we will know when it time to reenter.
The volume will tell us.

Intellectual types...hmmmm, well okay, as long as they are near my
age or older. Twenty-somethings all remind me of my kids.

Dave
good post and smart attitude

makes a lot of sense

I have wished I took a day off from time to time either after a big win or a bad series of trades

both can lead to losses the next day

Dave:
I'm a lurker, and not a day trader.
I admire your post. Unlike some others on SI, you actually admit you are not doing that well!
That being said, keep your chin up - it's been a tough, s****y market, especially for long traders.
You'll come back strong - stick to your discipline!

Dave,

Just wanted to tell you how much I appreciated your post. I am fairly new to trading and have been going through a period of trying to establish my trading rules. I will print your thoughts and add them to the others I have and read periodically just to keep a focus.

I have followed this thread for several months and ...am another groupie of Susan's ;)

Thanks to all for the many great posts I have read here.

Hey Dave,

Needless to say, I'm sorry that your trading has been off. Thought your post was great, the only thing I might suggest adding is to paper trade to get your confidence back, and to make sure that your new system is a good fit.

As Scott has pointed out, while we do our share of daytrading here, the purpose of the thread is to be intructional.

I hope that the fact that many of the regulars here (club members, as Poet put it) have reported in as taking some big hits the last couple of days will prove to be instructional to those reading the thread who are just getting started. This can sometimes be a tuff way to make a buck, and an easy way to lose 'em. I don't follow any of the trading threads, but if you're following one where everyone is making money everyday, the only difference between that thread and this one is that the posters there are a good deal less honest.
