The announcement is bad news for IBM Canada Inc. and Check Free of the U.S., the only companies left vying for the multimillion-dollar contract after Electronic Data Systems Corp. and Oracle Corp. dropped out.

My guess is that these guys "dropped out" for a damn good reason....and that CKFR CHOSE not to go after it because MSFDC "lowballed" the bidding so much that no-one with a lick of business sense could justify going down to their level. Not that it will matter to Wild Bill, but the associated parties may very well get their asses handed to them.

In contrast to this paragraph, getting the business would probably have been bad news for CKFR, and us. Remember all good business deals are win-win. JMHO
