JF3, other knowledgeable individuals on this thread have discussed your question in great detail and opinions are well-documented, presented, and all over the map. IMHO, stocks don't go up because they split. They split because they go up. There is, however, some empirical evidence to the contrary.

IMO, the markets for some stocks are rigged, but I just don't see that occurring with the four horsemen (DELL, INTC, MSFT, CSCO). You'd have to have Soros-type capital (sufficient in amount to impact the currency of third world countries) to even make a dent in these stocks.
