NEW YORK -(Dow Jones)- Pfizer Inc. Thursday announced plans for a 3-for-1 stock split, which could happen as soon as April if the drug maker's board and shareholders approve.

Gunther: PFE shareholders will vote to authorize additional outstanding shares at the 4/22/99 annual meeting. Following this authorization, you can expect the PFE Board to make the 3-1 split effective on 6/30/99....similar to the last split in 1997.
