Nikkei English: TOKYO (Nikkei)--Soliton
Systems KK, a Tokyo-based developer of
network equipment, has devised a line of
compact, money-saving Internet telephones
which it says are priced just one-third to
one-fifth as much as competing models.

The Solphone 1000 phones, designed
primarily for offices, enable users to send
faxes or speak to each other over their
company's local area network or leased
Internet lines to economize on phone
charges. In addition, the system can support
conference calls with up to 200 participants.

The phones are equipped with a fax modem
and include voice compression functions as
well as switching and network management
functions.

Soliton plans to begin sales of four models in
Japan in March and in Europe and the U.S. in
July. The company, which has priced the
phones starting at 128,000 yen, is targeting
worldwide sales of about 50,000 units in the
first year.

With the exchange rates at .0084cents for every 119.03 yen, that comes
to about $ 1,075.20 US Dollars. Is this a deal?
