IBM tried such tricks in the 1970s and 80s when they had a near lock on mainframe peripherals. I wonder where that ended up? <g>

I see a number of CSCO parallels with former IBM behavior (such as high pricing, proprietary solutions that cost more and do less, lagging their competitors in key technology areas, the old "void" service and support trick, etc.) before open systems won out. Say - where are their MCA based PCs and 3390 mainframe DASD now?
