I just bought an HP 8100 CD writer, recording cd-r's take 45 mins to 1 hr to record. It works OK. Rewriteable cds our too slow in accessing large files like my Quickbooks. The main reason I bought the HP CD recorder is to make audio cd's. I backup on floppy, Zip and cd-r. I've have three internal Zip drive . I've had them for years, use them daily and have not any problems. I bought a refurbished Jaz 1 and year ago and use it daily for downloading MP3 and have not had any problems. I think Iomega products work great and their fast. Everyone I know has at least a Zip drive . Iomega has got there quality control act together now.
Rocky, Iomega will be the leader in removable drive and media for years to come!!!
Still holding my IOM!!!

Rocky - Your inputs to this and the other thread have been invaluable, and kept me in perspective and out of hot water. I think this Castlewood is for real, specially if the CEO learned his lessons from SYQT and make sure of high quality control. ORB's pricing will put huge pricing pressure for the Jaz. I know personally many people who stay away from Jaz because of the expensive disks, i.e. not cost effective for large data storage and archive. Because of the number of reported problems with the Zips and Jaz, I am looking forward to getting the ORB for my second backup and will see if it is realiable and faster than Jaz2, as it claims. The $30 for 2.2 G disk is just absolutely phenomenal breakthrough and will be a great selling point.

I have also known several people whose jaz and zip drives failed and IOM told them "sorry". Considering the small percentage of failures (so they claimed), it would have been best if IOM replace them free of charge. These folks bought their Jaz and Zips several years ago, at prices higher at prevailing price. It would have been good public
relations if IOM had replaced them. Instead, IOM lost existing users and show lack of support behind their product. On the other hand, perhaps there is a great deal more problems with the IOM drives than the reported half percent defective.

I just got an email from a friend whose Jaz broke (quit or conked out) and she wants to sell the 1G disk. Anybody knows if my Jaz drive will be safe to use this disk from a broken Jaz?
