Nice ... but this is peanuts compared to the scoop move that's available ...

What @Home ought to do is take a little walk down El Camino and have a chat with the sunny boys about network topologies and application development for the broadband future.

What if ATHM/TCI + TWX + SUN stake out technical ownership of a vertically integrated software infrastructure that addresses the many new needs and challenges of service delivery over the next ten years.

There are so many issues that need to be resolved. Many have been mentioned here: object caching, distributed/partitioned administration, on and on and on ...

No one is saying "Here, we have a plan for how all this fits together. Not just some of it, we mean all of it. And, since we are the gorillas anyway, maybe you ought to listen to us."

Microsoft? Nope, don't see it. They just haven't made a convincing move away from the desktop, and they just don't have a lot of credibility as network wizards in a visionary sense.

There's a huge bundle of value that's going to be created, by hook or by crook. The value of how to run the net 10 years from now, from IP looking up all the way to the user. This value is going to be created. Evolution is the default, intention and design is the opportunity.

If someone grabs responsibility for that value ... whoa ... now that's leverage city.

Something tells me Sun has to be involved.
