Hi John,

I cannot say for sure why that happens, but whenever I suspect a problem or a delay I run a "TRACERT tal.taltrade.com" command in a DOS window and use it to verify my connection.

I also always run both the "System Monitor" and "TALnet" applications on an adjacent monitor to keep track of my system's health and any backlog of data at the quote servers.

That helps me balance the load on my system and the load I place on the servers by first identifying any resource overloads and then by tuning the MB Trader page I am using to optimize performance for both the CPU (and memory) and the data feed.

Great Trading!

NB

John how do your Tracert 's look ?

also, if you suspect a problem with your quotes, staying connected to the server for ten or fifteen minutes will do nothing for you except get you mad as hell.

sometimes you just have to restart your software and hit a different server.

it has been my experience that once your quotes jam up, you are way better off to restart the software.

also what is your connection ? i traded on an analog modem and got by, but i have to tell you after using dual isdn now for a few months i would urge you and everyone else to put some real effort into understanding how your internet connection works.

a regular 50+k connection is the minimum, not the optimal. especially if you want to trade dell

i am running a dual channel isdn with an 8 hop connection to the servers, my cpu is running at 450 mhz, and you know what?

DELL still hung my quotes once this week. even with a fairly hot set up, i still had to pair down my quote page for a time today when the DELL selling got very intense.

if you are trying to trade the hyper volume stocks, you will need to headache through some of this ISP stuff.

the pay off is huge though.

good luck, and try to stay flexible, you can get through this.
