Mike, Altera currently has no competitor to the Virtex family at the high end or Spartan XL at the low end. I can state with confidence that Virtex is gaining many wins in an area that has always been the holy grail for the programmable, mid to high end ASIC replacement. Altera's Flex10K can't compete here.

Edit: Mike, I should state that I like Altera too, just XLNX more. I will also state that I own neither.
