marc, Yes there is a big serious competitor in compression- I just can think of their name. They are worldwide- anyone can help? They are listed in Valueline under Energy Service Companies. Yes GE has been in the compression business. Also many companies just buy their own compressors and do their own thing. The "unbundling" of expertises has been in the natural gas world for a while-it's just coming to the oil world....

The value of a JV is mainly cost savings. Many redundant costs are stripped from the business model in a JV. Assuming that the companies get along well, then the JV should work on that basis. My guess is that WFT and GE want to lower costs of doing business so that they can offer lower prices to energy companies for compression but still maintain a healthy profit margin and psition themselves for inncreased compressio needs in the natural gas field/plant/pipeline segments of the business....

This looks like the same type of compressor business.

IMW Atlas and Dresser-Rand Team Up To Serve Compressed Natural Gas Market

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (BUSINESS WIRE) - IMW Atlas Industries and Dresser-Rand Company have announced an exclusive teaming agreement to jointly serve the Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) Vehicle market. The goal of the cooperative effort is to compete more effectively in the CNG fueling station business. IMW Atlas will offer Dresser-Rand VIP series compressors for all large applications (over 150 hp) in the CNG fueling station market.
The VIP (valve-in-piston) compressor, first introduced by Dresser-Rand in 1994, is one of the company's most significant compressor innovations in recent years. Able to produce higher capacity with greater efficiency, the VIP has already been successful in the gas field industry, with over 100 compressors and over 300 cylinders in service. The VIP compressor can be designed for both lubricated and non-lubricated applications, and offers increased reliability.

"Dresser-Rand's focus on quality products and service along with their broad experience in the natural gas industry complements our growth in manufacturing CNG fueling systems, particularly transit applications. The VIP compressors will make us even more responsive and competitive in this market segment," said Dale Dodrill, IMW Atlas President and CEO.

Shortened order-to-delivery cycle
Customer satisfaction by meeting requirements through error free work
Product support and service for all units placed in the field
Minimizing compression and dispensing costs
