The skating/bicycling center in Orange, a little north of where I live, is enormously successful so far, and with three more centers in the offing, Vans is becoming a sexy story that reminds me of snowboarding in the early days before Ride Inc. was poking along and then soared on the allure of the snowboarding story. When companies become connected with stories that excite investors (or stories that investors believe will excite yet other investors), a faddist potential can function like a booster rocket. While I'm up to my eyebrows in two other "story" stocks (ATMS and IATV), I shook free some cash to buy 6K of Vans at 6 1/4 for an intermediate to longer-term hold. I think the real rewards will come in the last half of the year, and what occurs between now and, say, June will be indicative of even better days to come.
