Re: ANTC

"1998 has clearly been a turn-around year for ANTEC and has shown that the hybrid fiber-coax (HFC) products that we provide to our customers are the preferred transport medium for internet access, cable telephony and other broadband services," said John Egan, ANTEC Chairman & CEO. "Our very strong position in cable telephony coupled with the demand for upgraded HFC networks places ANTEC in the middle of the technology changes occurring in our industry. During 1998 we introduced significant new Dense Wave Division Multiplexing (DWDM) and 870 MHz product offerings that will continue to make ANTEC the most complete supplier of HFC products from headend to home."

In the fourth quarter of 1998, ANTEC announced a major agreement with AT&T to provide Cornerstone cable telephony equipment for up to 2,000,000 customers in the TCI service area that could total over $900 million in sales over the life of the three year contract."

Thread,
Good news from ANTC. They beat the estimates but that is probably of no surprise to last mile investors. I think the most important news out of the release is the last sentence above.

Hi Mike,

Gilder has it right.

I'm in Bend,OR. HFC is in place and available. ADSL is years away, US
Worst won't even predict when.

Total rollout of ADSL/USA/end '98 = <30,000 subscribers, AFAIK.

Compelling economics: SF,CA T-1 @$3,000/mo. ADSL @$29-49/mo.
Same transmission rate. Rollout of ADSL gear in downtown CO (serves the financial district) never, if SBC were to have its way.
