While AOL continues its growth, even at these high valuations, there remains the possibility that it could begin to really grow explosively, from catalysts that have yet to materialize. I think the chance of that happening is much higher than the opposite, that for some reason their business model quits functioning.

I am not looking for an explosion any time soon, I mean within the next 3-4-5 years or so. The "S-curve" of the internet technology adoption is just starting to ramp up, and within a few years the true revolutions will begin taking place in the way we live and work. So far this has just been the preliminaries. E-commerce is nice, but it is just now being developed. Look a few years hence to the day when shopping malls will be mainly for leisure shopping, the staples being bought through the internet. Think of the lower traffic jams not only from a lessened need to go shopping but only the growth of telecommunting, when most companies will realize that their productivity will zoom up and costs come down by having workers tied in from their homes. Interactive video will be routine, as will cheap instant interaction worldwide whether with one's family, business associates, college teachers, doctors, etc.

It's easy to lose sight of this when we go through these little bumps in the road, but this is where this technology is ultimately headed.
