I agree with everything that you said. But I would take it one step further and state that I don't need anyone telling me what I can read, watch or listen too. And I don't need the government legislating it either. This is the realm of republicans.

Did you see Jerry Falwell's latest on the Teletubbies? I know he is a religous leader, but he has deep tentacles into the republican party.

I don't want to turn this into a libertarian soapbox, but I think that it would be fruitful for you to look at how the things that you stated (personal accountability and responsibility) would apply to the different facets of your life that you did not mention.

HiTech, this note I'm responding to is exactly what turns my stomach in the current republican party. You embrace your own values (ok) then presume to attach a less desirable set of values on the opposing political side. So because of your admirable qualities in life, you, the republican idealist, are compelled by induction to be for a flat tax, school choice, etc. whatever hairbrained half-baked idea that comes in the party leadership. This sort of evangelic conservatism boils my blood cold.
