I saw a great article about the battle between Silverberg and Allchin over M'soft's stategic direction. It was within the last month. The end of the story was that Allchin and Gates - the Windows bigots - cut Silverberg, who espoused competing with Java, off at the knees. I'm still looking for the reference, any help is appreciated.

Also, while looking for that, I have come across a couple of non-flattering references to Silverberg's activities.

He was in charge of the division which released:

ms-dos 5
win 3.1
win 3.10
ms-dos 6
win 3.11
win 95
ie 3
J++

The first six of which were unreliable, poorly architected, patchily implemented, derivatives of a 1970's technology, and which make UNIX look like the peak of human ingenuity. The last two of which represent attempts by Microsoft to crush competition funded by revenues from the first six.

Sorry, but if that is the measure of Mr. Silverberg, I hope he stays on his sabbatical.

P.
