How involved is overclocking?

It varies. The type of overclocking that we have discussed on this thread centers around a specific combination....ABIT's latest boards..the ones with soft menu and the Celeron 300A.

With this combination it is easy to overclock the 300A to 450 MHz. I do not know much about overclocking yet was able to overclock.

With the ABIT BH6..and now its new sister the XXX??? one only has to enter the bios on boot. This is accomplished by hitting the DEL key at the early stage of the boot. One then selects 'soft menu' and changes the cpu from 300/66 to USER. You toggle the settings to 4.5X and 100 MHz. Then save and exit..thats it. If the machine is unstable..locks up or other..boot again to the bios soft menu and up the voltage setting to 2.05V. Boot and test again. Repeat and test again as necessary. You are pushing the limits if you have to exceed 2.2 Volts.

You can overclock with other motherboards too. Generally it requires changing jumper settings on the motherboard in lieu of the easier to use soft menu on the ABIT boards. Clarence has an AOPEN board with an overclocked Celeron 300A.

I believe the ABIT board is the only board with .05V increments. On other boards you may have to select 2 or 2.2V or tape a pin on the cpu or?? You do have to verify the capability exists with the mobo before you buy it..not all boards are overclocking friendly.
