Yes, that was either late last week or very early this week. Gus Richard left the Sell Side to become a Buy Side analyst with one of the institutions.

I think I posted the story on one of the threads - possibly AMAT.

Too bad, he seemed quite capable and I believe visited the WSJ's All Star Analyst list.

Perhaps now we'll have a fund family that develops a love for MTSN shares. ;-)

Ian.

Dow Jones Newswires
Chip Equipment Analyst Richard Leaves Hambrecht & Quist
Dow Jones Newswires

NEW YORK -- Gus Richard, who was named an All-Star analyst by The Wall Street Journal in 1998 for his research on the semiconductor sector, has left Hambrecht & Quist Inc.

Richard has taken a position as a buy-side analyst for Emerging Growth Management, a San Francisco-based investment firm that manages institutional accounts and two hedge funds. At H&Q, he primarily covered chip equipment stocks such as Novellus Systems Inc. (NVLS) and Applied Materials Inc. (AMAT)

Richard's departure from H&Q follows that of Doug van Dorsten, who covered enterprise computing companies such as Hewlett-Packard Co. (HWP).

A H&Q spokeswoman said the firm hasn't replaced Richard yet, but intends to do so.

In January, the firm hired former PaineWebber Inc. analyst Walter Winnitzki to cover the personal computer industry.

Hambrecht & Quist is a unit of Hambrecht & Quist Group Inc.

John,

CNBC just reported that Tom Kurlak has left Merrill to join a hedge fund... Perhaps he and Gus R will be colleagues...

EDIT: Nope, he's off to Tiger Management..
