Scumbria,

re: Bill Clinton has a 70% approval rating. The highest of any modern President.

Wrong. George Bush had a 92% approval rating after Desert Storm.

re: Despite an endlessly hostile press, and a six year long inquisition by his political enemies, the public likes the job he is doing.

Actually, much of the press has been very friendly to WJC. The six year investigation was called for by his AG and three federal judges.

Wait a few months and see where WJC's approval rating is (there's more coming out, re: the 96 campaign law violations and dealings with the Chinese, etc., etc., etc.).

>>the public likes the job he is doing. Deal with it.

I'm afraid they have no choice. The Republicans can't kick him out and he won't resign.

A pleasant side effect for us investors is that the market will go crazy tomorrow when the votes are counted.

Another side effect - I've been a strong Republican for the past 30 years, and I voted a straight Democratic ticket in the last election just to send a message. I later found out that many of my relatives, friends, and acquaintances independently did the same thing. And when the GOP calls me for my usual contribution at election time, I'm going to tell them to go straight to h%*&. Lord knows I can relate to weakness, but not to hypocricy.

Bill Clinton has a 70% approval rating. The highest of any modern
President.

On the front page of today's (2/11/99) IBD there was a graphic
ranking the last eleven Presidents. The ranking classes are "Great
and Near Great", "Average", "Below Average and Failure", and "Don't
Know/No Opinion". This was based on a poll by Zogby International.
The date of the poll was not given.

I've reproduced the table below in tabular format. The Presidents
are listed in order of "Great and Near Great" ranking. I didn't
bother to put in the "Don't Knows".

Ranking The Presidents
