Paul, I repeat what I've said before. DSL is bad for you.
It is detrimental to your health. Nobody should use
this technology. It's a plot against all that's good
and right. Till I can get it, that is <ggg>.

Grr. I mean, of course, good luck and best wishes with it.
I envy you, I'm sorry to say. (I don't think of sloth as
a sin, more like a goal, but envy is not good. Hurts <G>.)

I guess I will stop filling out the little stinking
let-me-know forms and beat up on Bell Atlantic a bit.
Good idea, actually. I KNOW to do this, but, well,
so much to fill the empty days ...

Seriously, it sounds like a good plan. Careful, though;
they can easily scramble your systems if they start plugging
cards.

sounds like a good plan, Paul. I've certainly been pleased with DSL (and will keep it until cable modems are available in my neighborhood.)

I wouldn't worry too much about installing the cable modem yourself, if it comes to that. Since it should be an external device (it is, isn't it?) there's nothing too tough to tweak if you already have a network card installed.

You might explore how much more it would cost to not tie yourself into a year contract. US West announced a special I nabbed shortly after their first special (similar to GTE's) that required no long-term contract. Since cable modems are cheaper, and other competitors may enter your market, it might pay to have some room to negotiate.

Good luck,

Dave
