I don't claim to be a know-it-all on FORE or would-be acquirers, but it'll most likely be much later in the year before anything materializes with a FORE acquisition, if at all. Here's my reasoning. If FORE wanted to be taken out anywhere near these levels, most certainly they could've already had a done deal. However, it's in the shareholder's and management's interest to build FORE's value as much as they think they reasonably can before any consolidation wave in the industry forces their hand --very similar to Ciena's (CIEN - Nasdaq) situation. My take is that FORE will be solidly in the 20's before anything solidifies in the way of merger activity this year, if at all. -John Dodson

Rich, I have heard rumors of FORE turning down at least two offers in the past year or so... My thoughts are that there will be an acquisition this quarter. If it doesn't happen, then we will need to patiently await some strong quarters and an increased market presence in the Service Provider market. At that point, we can expect a bit of a bidding war as high end telecom eqpt. makers look to expand their data offerings. Might I suggest Tellabs, Lucent, or even (hold your breath) 3COM. "pig-headed" I don't think so, they need to take care of their shareholders and the offers I've heard about weren't all that awesome.... hang tight - you will be rewarded
