OFF TOPIC TO WSP
AH THE IMFAMOUS ICE WORMS
Legend has it they thrive in the far North. Some fish have worms so why not ice. You see the holes in the ice in the spring, are they air bubbles that create them or is it the mighty ice worm.
Bacteria have been found deep in rocks, underground caves cut off from the surface have little critter so why not ice worms. They sell replicas of them in some shops along with the great northern furry trout and northern horned hare (rabbit).
Here is a real one for you that you can see every spring, snow fleas and/or mites. When the sun gets warm but the snow is still on the ground in a foot print, hollow or depression you see what looks like a shadow though it is where a shadow shouldn't be. Look closely and it is millions of tiny snow fleas mating. I've see so many at some spots you could scoop them up with a spoon. They live in the soil but come to the snow surface in spring to mate. Hard to understand some of the workings of nature.
Another one which I always find a little amazing, later in the spring you can be miles away from shore, actually way out of sight from shore and you will see a little spider walking across the ice. You ask yourself "where could it have come fröm" On shore they hatch and let out a little thread to ride the air currrents to a new home and some end up in the middle of the lake.
Nature does have maany mysteries for us to explore and contemplate on.
regards Walt

Ice worms are definitely a phenomenon. The same as many of the northern wonders of nature, kinda like Cone Sheets. Ice worms are also extremely knowledgeable due to their propensity to burrow to the "core" of the matter. They should definitely NOT be ignored or taken for granted when encountered or referred to. Many are very small in size, but we do get the occasional large ones, very "snakelike"! Take the towel away from the bottom of yer back door in the hope a few may slither in, you might be pleasantly surprised.
