NEW YORK -(Dow Jones)- Wireless-communications technology firm Qualcomm
Inc. is talking to several potential buyers, including Canadian
telecommunications-equipment maker Northern Telecom Ltd., regarding Qualcomm's
struggling unit that makes equipment for wireless phone networks.
San Diego-based Qualcomm commercially developed the code division
multiple access, or CDMA, format for digital wireless phone systems. Qualcomm
(QCOM) is looking at a number of possible options for the equipment division.
The company recently said it will cut 700 jobs, mostly in that unit.
Nortel and Qualcomm have a strong relationship already, said Nortel
Chief Executive John A. Roth. The Canadian giant is considering some sort of
deal with Qualcomm, including possibly acquiring part of it, he said.""

The point is the stock lost half it's value and still hasn't reached the market cap prior to the acquisition. Perhaps that doesn't bother you, but most people prefer to make money. Why don't you pull a chart of CSCO and LU in 98 and compare it to NT, not very impressive. From a shareholders perspective, to date, they have not made a dime on BAY. Where's your "paying off bigtime"? The point isn't rocket science....they lost half their market value after their last acquisition, a another percieved negative acquisition could be a repeat performance, and most investors prefer to skip the trip to the cellar and re-enter at the bottom.
