interesting post from Raging Bull WCTI thread: By: ootommy Reply To: None Thursday, 11 Feb 1999 at 10:27 PM EST Post # of 1845 The following is an excerpt from The Silicon Alley Daily 2/11/99 Imagine the value of a multi-language search engine in the Euro zone where there ar at least 14 languages: "I've learned that these issues, which we've been discussing for the past five years have not really been raised yet in Europe. Most of the CEOs I've met, both from the US and in Europe, estimate that the European market is 12-36 months behind the US market. It's the hot discussion topic all over Milia. So rather than dance around the issue, I just came out and asked if the panel and the audience thought that the European Internet companies would ever catch up with their American counterparts. Everyone froze. You could almost hear the room thinking, "Oh my God, he asked the question!" The moment I said it, I realized I did the worst thing a moderator could do: I put everyone on the spot. The panelists didn't want to admit that they suspect the answer is no, and the European audience knows all too well how far behind they are. A number of salient points came out of the dialogue. How can European Internet companies compete with the well-capitalized markets in the United States? How will the European market ever catch up if their communications infrastructure prohibits flat- rate, all-you-can-eat Internet service? Is the high-cost of producing multiple-language sites to service the European market going to prohibit profitability in the content space? The answers to all these questions is probably yes." Thanks everybody for the last month or so on this board (Voluntary Disclosure: Position- long; ST Rating- strong buy; LT Rating- strong buy)
