02-13-99 : Foreigners allowed partial ownership in satellite TV

In a major turnaround from a previous government stance, big business groups, newspaper companies and foreign investors
will be allowed to participate in the domestic operation of satellite TV, the Broadcasting Reform Committee announced
Thursday. The ad-hoc committee's resolution turns around a previous government decision to prohibit them from satellite
TV business. The committee decided at a meeting on the day that big business groups, newspaper companies and foreign
investors can own up to 33 percent of the shares of a satellite TV operating company.

But they will be banned from investing in news and general interest channels. Big business groups and newspaper companies will be permitted to own other programs besides the two mentioned above, while foreign investors will be allowe> Transfer interrupted!

e controversial launching date of satellite TV, the committee decided to select operators upon the passing of the new
broadcasting bill at the National Assembly. The bill is scheduled to be approved by the National Assembly within the first
half of this year. Once the operators are selected, satellite TV is expected to be launched at around the end of 2000.
