QMS Drops Price On Color Laser Printer To $1,799

MOBILE, ALABAMA, U.S.A. QMS, Inc. has dropped the price for its multi- user-capable
Magicolor 2 DeskLaser printer 28 percent, from $2,499 to $1,799. The printer uses
document
compression, has an integrated Intel i960SA processor, both 10BaseT Ethernet and parallel

interfaces, and prints at 600 x 600 dpi (dots per inch). QMS says it is fully color-ready when
shipped. QMS has also lowered the price on service plans for the DeskLaser, which has a
hefty
20,000 copy duty cycle. The firm also offers other workgroup-oriented laser printer products.

Personal Market Analyst Now Shipping To Ingram Micro

MIPS Technology Passes One Hundred Millionth Shipping Milestone

MOUNTAIN VIEW, CALIFORNIA, U.S.A. MIPS Technologies, Inc. announced it has shipped
more than one hundred million processors with its advanced MIPS (million instructions per
second)
RISC (reduced instruction set computer) architecture. The firm says its instruction set
architectures
(ISAs) are being used in devices from high-end supercomputers to consumer- based digital
devices
and the embedded market, giving the firm a portfolio of over 60 products. MIPS

Motorola's New M-Core M300 Processor Debuted

AUSTIN, TEXAS, U.S.A. Motorola unveiled its next-generation microprocessor core, the
M300
M-Core, at the Microprocessor Forum this week. Motorola says the processor continues the
line of
processors that uses floating point units to give enhanced core performance for numeric
acceleration.
This means a system can give faster calculation rates while using less power, an important
design
factor. The firm cites devices like portable games, DVD players, camcorders, engine control
and

Rx2000 Joins MedSeek To Fix Y2K Woes

MINNEAPOLIS, MINNESOTA, U.S.A. Rx2000 Solutions Institute has enlisted Internet and

Year 2000 coping resources. The two firms will work together and, later this month, plan to
offer
Institute members free use of some powerful database tools, together with an opportunity to
share

Hitachi M2 Digital Audio-Video Archiving Appliance

BRISBANE, CALIFORNIA, U.S.A. Hitachi America Ltd. has introduced the M2, Hitachi's
second-generation multimedia appliance for compressing and storing data on a 260
megabyte
PCMCIA (Personal Computer Memory Card International Association) Type III hard drive.
The
device uses MPEG-1 technology to record full-motion video and audio while photos are
stored in
JPEG format. The specialized tool targets markets like real estate, law enforcement,
facilities
management, insurance, travel and photojournalism. It weighs 1.2 pounds and is available
