Finally signs of intelligent life on this thread!!!! HOORAY!

Thanks for the intelligent response and opportunity to debate....I will respond in the morning since I am going to bed right now...past 1 am EST...my time

Just one note...Chinese Communism was and never has been tantamount to what was considered communism in the West...

China is NOT an open and free society in any way similar to the United States....whether you call it "non-democratic", totalitarian, "communist",paternalistic, Confucian or feudal...China has no history of "democrasy" and free speech....and therefore open and free access to information is a threat to order and bureacrasy...And China has been quite adept at bureacrasy for over a thousand years.

Many also still wonder how and what will happen with Hong Kong and Hong Kong's free markets now that is once again part of the "mother" country....Many investors TOOK their money and RAN prior to this 1997 re-unification

Also, finally remember that a large and strenuous objection to the the MFN Status was due to China's human rights abuses partly in regards to Tibet and the labor camps...

I'll address many of your other points tomorrow.

Now getting back to your statements about "most favored nation" status.....

Particularly about your statement about business fighting to do business WITH China...where in the reality with Globalization the more accurate statement would be Multi-National Corporation head quartered in the US and Japan are doing business IN China....

Remember "IN" not "WITH".....which is a big distinction....

Now why do I make this distinction and what is its importance to MFN status and commerce?

Namely, China provides to competitive Global competitors a cheap and relatively skilled labor force...(slave labor is especially inexpensive...LOL)..In a global market the means of production and its most labor intensive aspects start where there is the cheapest labor and the fewest restrictions controlling production.

China has few if any environmental regulations...they are burning Coal emitting CO2 like there is no tomorrow, while just starting to consume automobiles en masse . Regarding worker safety and child labor laws? I'd assume these are relatively weak compared to the US and Western European countries...please fill me in if you have more information.

Now whether it's textiles or manufacturing...global companies always seek out the cheapest means of labor with the fewest regs to minimize costs (so people like you and me can purchase products inexpensively) and right now unfortunately for many Chinese...the Chinese are still on one of the lowest tiers of this production ladder and don't necessarily benefit directly from the multi-nationals producing in their country.

Obviously in this brief summary I am making broad statements and leaving out many details and observations that both support and contradict my conclusions.

Yongzhi, please feel free to clarify, correct, challenge, and/ or concede to any of the points I've made above with which you agree or disagree.
