Carnaval '99 Broadcast Live Over the Internet From Rio de Janeiro Using Real Broadcast Network
SEATTLE, Feb. 12 /PRNewswire/ -- RealNetworks, Inc. (Nasdaq: RNWK), the recognized leader in streaming media, today announced that the company's Real Broadcast Network, in conjunction with Embratel, a subsidiary of MCI WorldCom, will broadcast Carnaval '99 beginning February 13, 1999. The audio and video feeds will be provided by Organizacao Globo, a group of media providers including television, radio, newspaper, and online publications. While celebrated around the world, Carnaval is a Mardi Gras festival centered in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Millions of people participate in the parades of Samba clubs that compete for the year's title of "Best Samba School." By broadcasting the event live over Real Broadcast Network, RealNetworks enables a worldwide audience to participate in the celebration.

As well, the Chinese New Year celebration will be broadcast live and on-demand over the Internet on Monday, February 15. Beginning at 4:00 a.m. PST, Internet users can experience singing, dancing, acrobats and theater festivities broadcast live in RealAudio(R) and RealVideo(R) from Tiananmen Square in Beijing, China.
