8. EntreMed's Cancer Drug Heads To Human Trials
Date: 2/12/99

Scientists at the National Cancer Institute managed to duplicate a Harvard doctor's success with an experimental cancer treatment, and they plan to begin human testing by the fall. The proteins involved in the treatment are being developed by EntreMed. This week, Bristol-Myers Squibb ended a venture with EntreMed to develop one of the proteins. The natural proteins have been shown to starve tumors in lab mice and make the tumors fall dormant or disappear.

Regarding your question about being the first human it is tried on: Undoubtedly the first human trial will be in patients who have advanced unresponsive cancer with no other treatment options--so, would I want to be that person?--no. Would I take it if eligible?--yes.
